Modern Museum of Calligraphy

Exposition of the Modern Museum of Calligraphy

Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy (founded in 2008) is the first Russian museum for the art of lettering. All across the world (including Turkey, China, Japan and UAE) there are the museums with permanent calligraphy expositions. However, there were no such museums in Russia yet. This makes the museum of calligraphy located in Sokolniki unique, not to mention the outstanding calligraphic items it contains.
The museum was initiated by the National Union of Calligraphers, Sokolniki culture & Exhibition centre and MVK International Exhibition Company. The museum was officially registered on July 22, 2008 at the Administration of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
The exhibiting items include  fine specimen of Slavonic and European lettering, Russian and foreign books on calligraphy, limited editions of rare manuscripts, writing utensils of the past and present, elegant Hebrew calligraphy.
This autumn our museum will be added by a real jewel - the Handwritten Constitution of the Russian Federation, created by the National Union of Calligraphers.  The centerpiece of the exposition is now formed by  well-designed calligraphic art works by the visual artists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, France, Israel, Syria, USA, Japan, China, etc. They all are live-action pieces of art which have accumulated the lettering traditions of many generations. The museum exposition also contains the works of the distinguished masters’ apprentices, the ones who are now breaking the ground of calligraphy.
